Bring Nature Inside

Connection to Nature

The human's innate connection to other living organisms is called the Biophilia theory (Louv, 2011). Research has shown that there are therapeutic benefits of natural environments on ADHD and anxiety.

Connecting to nature is connecting to oneself and who you are in relation to the world. Using biophilia to create an experience can help form a positive relationship between places and people. Proximity and access to nature has clear benefits on mental and physical well-being for everyone but, especially, for individuals with ADHD. Directed attention can lead to attention fatigue but taking a break to get out in nature can restore attention (Faber Taylor & Kuo, 2009). I once heard an ADHD friend describe going out in nature as hitting the control-alt-delete button for their brain.
