Interior Design for Neurodiversity
Designing for ADHD benefits Everyone! I can help creating calming and organized spaces that support individuals with ADHD in their daily lives. My designs are tailored to minimize distractions and promote productivity, allowing clients to thrive in their environment. Through the use of active and passive design principles, a space can better fit the needs of the neurodivergent brain.
- Purposeful moment in a space
- Sensory elements for internal regulation
- Create a nature story
- Bringing the outdoors in
Some might say that ADHD brains have superpowers such as hyper-focus and creativity. Knowing this, we can find creative solutions for the built environment to support these gifts and make ADHD-friendly spaces. It is important for designers to have a holistic approach to design that addresses mental and physical needs.
Many of the traits that individuals with ADHD present are shared with other neurodivergent populations. 1 in 10 people are neurodivergent, that is about 20% of the world's population (Nesbitt, K. V., & Friedrich, C., 2002).
Studies have shown that being close to nature reduces ADHD symptoms.
